CCH’s Literature of Western Civilization units utilizes the plan described in Christine Miller’s Literature in the Grammar Stage article, to expose children to the best of the 1000 good books, building their proficiency and literacy year by year. The goal of CCH’s grammar stage literature curriculum is to give children not only exposure to that literature necessary for all children to be truly educated, but to prepare them in reading ability for the more advanced Great Books of Western Civilization that they will encounter in the dialectic and rhetoric stages. Many of the literature selections have also been designed to dovetail seamlessly with CCH’s History of Western Civilization units for the grammar stage as well.
